General Approach to Learning: Teacher-Led

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Mainspring's philosophy is based on the beliefs that each child is a unique individual, that a safe, predictable, nurturing environment is critical to healthy early development, and that a feeling of self-worth is the foundation for all other learning. The whole child is considered when planning curriculum and programs to provide age-appropriate, developmentally suitable learning experiences. Mainspring provides a variety of activities through which the children can experience joyful, successful learning. Through reassurance, encouragement, and a positive, nurturing atmosphere, teachers guide children in problem solving, decision-making, and handling new situations. They provide opportunities for children to learn self-help and social skills.

Mainspring has a philosophy of inclusion while addressing and providing for the individual child's specific needs. It includes all areas of development: Cognitive, Social, Emotional, Language, Physical, Cultural, Creative, and Health/Nutritional. Teachers work to model patience and understanding, and are actively involved with children through participation, observation, facilitation, availability, encouragement, and mutual respect. Flexible, appropriate, and interesting activities promote acceptable social behavior and self-control. Through the use of techniques such as redirection, choices, natural and logical consequences, and problem solving, teachers facilitate each child's development of self-discipline.
