Fine Arts Academy @ Dance Discovery (Mother's Day Out)

From the Director:

We see teachers as guides that set up learning environments that elicit a creative response from children. Teachers ask open-ended questions that encourage students to problem solve as a community at the same time, teachers stay constantly available in order to provide a safe, predictable environment for the students.

The program seeks to reach the part of the individual that is a composer rather than a player, an originator rather than an interpreter, a creator rather than an imitator.

Our classroom community is set up for a wide range of skill levels to be met and challenged at the same time. Students work with each other to teach new skills, while the teacher is constantly observing the needs of students and responding with activiteis that meet their individual need and interests.

Schedule Example:
9:30-10:00 Each morning begins with outdoor play.
10:00-11:00 This is followed with fine arts learning centers set up with process oriented activities in visual art and dramatic play. Snack is set up family style as a center where students may serve themselves independently. Kindergarten readiness activities are integrated throughout the learning centers as well.
11:00-11:30 Circle time stories, yoga, and music
11:30-12:00 Lunch (brought from home)
12:00-1:00 Teacher guided lesson in ballet, tap, jazz, and creative movement.
1:00-1:30 Gymnastics

We check in with each parent at dismissal daily.
The students present an art show for their families in October at the studio.
They present a musical theatre production in Feb. at the Dougherty Arts Theatre
They also have a dance recital in June at the Scottish Rite Theatre.

We leave this decision up to the parent as they know their child best. Often times a parent may need to attend Mother's Day Out with their child for a few days before the child is adjusted.
