We focus on play-based curriculm so children can progress at their own level when they are ready. They have choices of activities that meet their developmental needs. Our teachers spend time observing students to determine which activities to make available to them and provide parents with progress updates and observations.
The Preschool is a ministry of Covenant United Methodist Church. We serve parents and children by providing nurturing care for children ages 12 months to 5 years old in a Christian setting. Parents have the opportunity to pursue their own interests with the knowledge that their children are being cared for in a responsible, loving manner.
Every child participates in a Music and Movement class each week. Beginning at age 3 our students attend chapel weekly. We offer Spanish classes to our Pre-K students as well. The children participate in two musical programs each year, including our annual re-telling of the Christmas story. We have special visitors during our study of community helpers, and a petting zoo comes when we have our Rodeo Days celebration in the spring. We offer after school classes for 3 and 4 year-olds, including cooking and an Explorers science class.
Our Pre-K classes go on several field trips that reflect their unit of study. This year some of the places they will be visiting are Crowe's Nest Farm, Zachary Scott Theatre, and the Austin Nature and Science Center.
The children are invited to participate in two service projects through the preschool. In the fall we collect food for Covenant UMC's Food Pantry. The children present their offerings at our Thanksgiving celebration. Around Easter we will visit the Loyalton assisted living facility on Duval Road. The children visit with the residents and make Easter crafts with them.
Our school sends parents official newsletter each month with happenings around the school and important information and updates. Our teachers also send home weekly updates. We conduct formal parent/teacher conferences once a year for our three year olds and twice a year for our four year olds.
We have extra aides in the younger classrooms at the start of the school year. We also talk to parents ahead of time to give them ideas and tips on how to make separation easier with children.
