General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Montessori

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Because our instruction is unique to each student, there is no "behind" or "excelling." We meet all children where they are and work together from that point.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

Knoxville Montessori School provides a safe and exciting educational environment where our children develop the courage, confidence, and skills to pursue their dreams. Our Montessori experience fosters a strong, inclusive community that embraces structure, freedom, responsibility, and a variety of learning styles.

A Typical Day

Students in each class are free to work individually or in small groups, directed by Montessori-certified teachers. The materials used are designed to provide a wide variety of experiences geared to the developmental needs of each child.

In the Primary classes at KMS, much of the learning happens as a natural part of play. In the Elementary class, the learning becomes more structured. At all classes, one-on-one instruction allows the curriculum to be individualized for each student.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

We communicate regularly with parents via email, our website, Facebook and our family-only, password-protected blog.

Teachers send home weekly newsletters and quick outlines of what each child did that week. There are also bi-annual parent/teacher conferences.

Additionally, we're always available should a parent wish to have a discussion.

Separation is Handled through:

 • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
 • Small group sessions

Handling Separation: From the Director

Our teachers have a lot of experience helping children make the transition to school. We look for ways to make each child comfortable and respond with care and patience when a child struggles.
