Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"S.E.L.C. believes it is critical to provide experiences that delight, inspire, and capture the wonderful spirit of children. Let your child be a part of a memorable time exercising her/his mind and body and discovering just how much fun learning can be! We have expanded upon our daily experiences with activities that blossom the rich imagination of children and their limitless capabilities to have fun. Each thematic unit assures an interesting learning experience that lasts a lifetime. Through a great developmental program we meet children's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and intellectual needs. S.E.L.C. is a perfect opportunity to help your child grow to the fullest of capabilities during this special stage of life"

A Typical Day

"7:30 - 8:30 AM

ARRIVAL - I can't wait to see what fun awaits me at S.E.L.C. Our loving staff eagerly greets your child with a warm welcome as we begin a new and exciting day.

BREAKFAST - Start my day, the right way, with a nutritious breakfast from home.

8:30 - 8:50 AM

TRANSITION - Now that all our friends are here, it's off to our own classrooms.

FREE PLAY - Table Toys, Blocks, & Sensory Exploration

HAPPY HELPERS- Here's the paper, scissors, and glue. Is there anything else I can do?

8:50- 9:00 AM

CLEAN UP - Clean up, clean up, everybody does their share!

9:00 - 9:30 AM

CIRCLE TIME - Gather round while we discuss the weather, season, and date. I now know my name on a card as the teacher takes attendance. Hmm, I wonder what job I will get today.

9:30 - 10:30 AM

PROJECT - The activity for each day pertains to the thematic unit or time of year. For instance, if we are working on the Alphabet Unit in the fall and the letter for that week is "A", then the planned project may be apple printing and practicing writing the letter "A".

10:30 - 11:00 AM

SNACK - "Snaaaaaaack! Yum, yum, yum! It's the best of all the rest!"

STORY - In our Library area, adventures in reading await. Don't be late for this very important date!

11:00 - 11:15 AM

- Wagons, tricycles, scooters galore, who could ask for anything more?

11:15 - 11:30 AM

CLEAN UP - Put away the toys the right way, we'll be back to play later today. Don't forget to wash your hands.

11:30 - 12:30 PM

LUNCH - What did Mom and Dad pack today? A sandwich, juice, fruit, and a snack, hooray!

12:30 - 2:30 PM

REST - "Quiet time can be tough, give the signal hush, hush, hush! "

2:30 - 2:45 PM

AWAKE for snack, but first we need to go to the bathroom and wash our hands.

2:45 - 3:15 PM

SNACK - Yummy, yummy in my tummy! Some days we even get to help in Cooking the snack.

3:15 - 3:30 PM

STORY - Join us on the rug in the area, as we read about the Grouchy Lady Bug

3:30 - 4:00 PM

PROJECT - Next is Arts & Crafts. I will make giraffes on rafts for the letter "G".

4:00 - 4:30 PM

FREE PLAY - Look at the Discovery Centers that are open, which shall I chose:

Maybe today I'll build a space station with Legos, dress up like an astronaut, and fly off in the spaceship to walk on the moon.

4:30 - 4:45 PM

CLEAN UP - Free play must come to an end, but we can still pretend as we help put away the toys.

4:45 - 5:00 PM

- Grab a partner, round and round. Spin around and touch the ground!

5:00 PM - 5:30 PM

- Climb, swing, slide, or go for one last ride before Mom and Day come to pick up where they left off.

DISMISSAL - We'd love to stay and play, but tomorrow will bring a brand new day
