A Typical Day

"Infant typical day
7:30 - 9:00

Greet infants and parents. Ask about any changes in daily schedule, how the child was last night, and when he or she last ate. Put away bottles, food, and diaper supplies. Spend individual time holding and talking to each child.

9:00 - 10:00

Feeding of fruit, formula, or juice. Older infants can have a snack. Diaper Changing. Infants who need morning naps are placed in cribs. Older infants who do not need a morning nap can visit the toddler room, play in the playroom or playground, read stories, play manipulatives, art, music and movement, finger plays.

10:00 - 11:30
Individual play on floor, movement exercises, read stories and sing songs, outdoor play, or walk in stroller.
11:30 - 1:00 Lunch, diaper changing, clean-up, and prepare for naps.
1:00 - 3:00 Naptime. Lights are dimmed, and soft music is played. Younger infants who are not sleeping at this time are talked to and played with quietly. Infants can also be taken to play in the playroom, hallway, or playground.
3:00 - 4:00 Wake-up time. Put on shoes and socks, have a snack, formula, juice, and or food. Diaper changing. Put away mats and change crib sheets.
4:00 - 5:30 Individual play time with each child, singing, talking, and outdoor or indoor play.
5:30 - 6:00 Prepare children to go home. Talk to parents about their child's day and say good-bye
TODDLER TYPICAL DAY:
sixteen months to three years of age
7:30 - 8:30

Large muscle time in the playroom

9:00 - 9:30
Breakfast and snack

9:30 - 9:45
Gathering time for large group activity of a story, finger plays, language activities, or music. Art activity.

9:45 - 10:10
Self-selected activities

10:10 - 10:20
Cleanup

Large muscle time outside

Circle time with music

Large muscle time in playroom

three through five years of age
7:30 - 8:30
Greet children and parents and tell them what will be happening at Southminster Child Care Center today. Ask parents about any changes in daily schedule. Staff should spend individual time with each child, individual tutoring, free play (children choose activities from the manipulative, block, book, art, dramatic play, science, math, or quiet play areas).

Story and quiet time with soft music while children rest on their mats. Children who are done resting may select from a variety of quiet time choices such as toys, drawing, books, and puzzles.
