General Approach to Learning: Montessori

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"We believe that the child creates the adult that is to be, through experience and interactions with the environment. Our mission is to assist and enhance this process of creation by enabling each child to maximize his or her full potential. We view education as an aid to life. We believe in the natural “goodness of people. If free to grow in healthy surroundings under suitable conditions, they naturally grow into intelligent, competent and responsible adults. With this in mind, we created our school as a place of self discovery where individuals learn how to learn and provide the means and freedom to become lifelong learners and develop to their full potentials.
The philosophy we adapted from Montessori principles is characterized by:
· Respect for the child

· A prepared environment with scientific, sequential, multi-sensory, and self-correcting materials to support self-directed learning

· Observant educators trained to assess learning styles, paces and to prepare the environment and materials accordingly, and working as facilitator of learning and a dynamic link between the learner and the environment

· Purposeful activity to educate the whole child

· Freedom of movement to select activities and to interact with peers and the environment

· Uninterrupted time to finish an activity successfully, thus building self-esteem

· Self-confident learners respectful of themselves and others

· Children from different age groups working alongside one another in the classroom where older children help younger ones while they learn more and understand their own ideas as they are aiding others and younger ones learn from older as they improve listening skills, and also emulate their older companions in a family like environment.
