A Typical Day

All classrooms allow for free-play during drop off times, which can begin as early as 6am. Breakfast is served at 8am (earlier for children who attend school). Each classroom has circle time and a story. Each class then has gross motor play in the play yard (weather permitting) or the gymnasium. A variety of toys, games, and activities are available. Children over age 3 also have the option to go swimming once each week with their teachers. Back in the classrooms, children have a variety of options: art projects, science projects, pretend play, cooking, reading and more. Lunch is prepared on-site and served at 11:30. Children are then able to find quiet activities as they prepare for Quiet Time. Children are able to nap during this time and regain energy for the afternoon's activities. An afternoon snack is provided at the end of Quiet Time. Children then have small group games and activities and may return to the outdoor play yard (weather permitting) as they await their parents.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Small group sessions
  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation
  • Parents in classroom early on
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

Each child is unique and handles separation differently. We find it is best to let each child guide us- and the parents- in what their needs are. In cases of severe separation anxiety, the staff and parents will work together to come up with a plan.
