"Positive Approaches guides everything we do at KenCrest, from our supports in our programs, to our interactions with fellow staff, to our interactions with people outside the agency. Positive Approaches involves growth and learning on the part of all team members. People are valued, and experience unconditional relationships built on mutual trust and respect.
Positive Approaches is an integration of values, beliefs and supports, individualized to each person according to their needs and desires. In Positive Approaches, we believe that all behavior has meaning and that a person's behavior can be a method to communicate needs and desires. We listen to each person - by asking questions, hearing their answers, and observing their environments and interactions. Then we work within a close team structure to discover that "purpose" and help the person to find more appropriate ways to get his or her needs met. We do our best to creatively support the person and the situation. Sometimes, the first plan doesn't work. We use the experience gained from the first attempt to improve the next. This philosophy is based on building capabilities, teaching, creating opportunities, and offering choices that help every person live a fulfilling life. Positive Approaches measures success by the satisfaction of the person being supported."
