Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Teacher-Led

From the Director:

We use the children's natural curiosity as a guide line in our teaching approach. They are much like we are, if it is something they are not interested in they will get bored, however if you spark their interest they will be like sponges soaking up everything and asking for more.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

We look at each child as a unique individual, whether they are excelling or having trouble keeping up. We will take the time to help the child in need and encourage the one excelling. If we have a child who learns differently, if we could not solve the issue internally we would share our external resources with parents and together we would search for a solution.

A Typical Day

Center opens at 7AM, from then until 9AM is free time, children can play games, look at books or play with toys. 9 AM we brake into age groups, and do abc's, day of week, ect, followed by lesson of the day.
Depending of weather we go out for a few minutes returning at 11 for lunch. (Provided) Nap time is 12-2:30 followed by afternoon snack. After snack it can be back outside, finishing projects from morning then wind down waiting for parents.

Separation

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation

Handling Separation: From the Director

If a child has an issue with separation we will put an extra staff person with the child continually explaining that their parents will be back. Sometimes we add a child of similar age to try to engage the new child is some kind of play. It could take several days to get a new child over separation depending on their age.
