General Approach to Learning: Montessori

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"To help each child to a joyous self-reliant approach to life, and a feeling that he or she can know the truth through his or her own efforts and make order out of the world. Morningstar Montessori is concerned with the "whole Child", and is especially interested in the child's feelings about him/herself. And we strive to accomplish this through guidance and the Montessori Philosophy.

A Typical Day

"A Typical Day:
The child arrives at school, removing his or her outwear, putting them away. [The mastery of everyday such skills is characteristic of Montessori trained children. They delight in their ability to do such things.]
The children then proceed into the classroom to possibly learn some new material or see something brought in by another child.
They then explore their work quietly at tables or on carpeted floor mats, in which they might:
shine shoes
wash chairs
or other practical life exercises
Some may watch the work of another child without any attempt to touch or disturb the work.
Older children may pause to help a younger child grasp a difficult concept.
