Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Montessori

From the Director:

Montessori wants children to follow their own curiosities and find focus in joy in work that they choose, while working with their community toward common goals.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Every child is observed and worked with individually and with the group to encourage positive development. Works are introduced and designed for each individual child as they show readiness.

Day in the Life

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Parent Teacher Conferences in the fall and spring, occasional handouts sent home, outside parent education workshops recommended, open communication year-round between parent and teacher

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Small group sessions
  • Parents in classroom early on
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

we guide the parents to show their children their own confidence in leaving their children, recommend brief and loving goodbyes, and do our best to comfort the child and distract them with fun things to do or a snack once the parent has left
