A Typical Day

"Arrival/sign in (please do not arrive earlier then 5 minutes early, we share our
building with “EDP,� before and after school day care for NCCS school aged
children. They leave for their classes at 8:15 and the preschool teachers need
classroom time after they leave– that effects our morning class. In the
afternoon we need to clean up after the am class, set up for the pm class, and
have lunch. We want to be focused and ready for you and your child so please
do not arrive too early. We really appreciate your cooperation!)
Warming up & Getting started (10-15 minutes) Children begin using the
learning centers until Preschool Meeting begins
Preschool Meeting (approx. 15 min) The meeting time is designed for
children to learn about the daily activities, have music/movement activities,
have group prayer time, etc
Choosing Time/ Learning Center Exploration (50-70 minutes) “Learning
through play� time. Children choose where to play and learn in the centers
from dramatic play, dress up, investigation activities, the paint easel, doll play,
blocks, games, puzzles, “inventions,� sensory experiences, writing, etc. The
teacher will join children to support and enhance the learning in their play
experiences. Also includes Art/Craft and Snack within the choosing time
Cooperative Clean up time (5-8 minutes) Children work together to clean up
the preschool
Group Gathering (10-20 minutes) This experience is designed for cognitive
concept building (teacher designed and directed). Group time may be the
whole group or small groups. Group gatherings may include alphabetic
principles, number concepts, social experiences, or other preschool activities
Outdoor Play (10-25 minutes; depending on classroom activities and the
weather) with an emphasis on large motor development
Story Time (approx. 10 minutes) Children gather for quality literature which
may include a story or some other literacy activity
Book Time (3-6 minutes) Children “read� books independently until their
approved adult arrives for pickup."
