Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"The purpose of a preschool is to give the child an opportunity to play and work with children their own age, and to prepare them for kindergarten. Our goals are to enrich the children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development, increase independence, teach them to listen carefully to and follow directions, develop their problem solving skills, and increase their self confidence. Children in our preschool will learn through activities, crafts, themes and interactive play, not desk-sitting. There are also field trips scheduled throughout the year to enhance the learning experience. We want your child's first educational experience to be a positive one! To achieve this, we have equipped our school with the tools that will help our students learn about themselves, others and the world around them. Our faculty is comprised of warm, understanding teachers who will guide your child's development. In educating your child, we also strive to: • Expand your child's social adaptability, emotional growth and intellectual interests; • Provide opportunities for play with equipment that may not be available at home; • Help prepare each child and determine their readiness for kindergarten; • Encourage independence and instill self confidence; • Increase each child's confidence in being with other adults and children in a variety of situations; • Encourage self-control; • Offer opportunities for self-expression in art, music, rhythm and language; • Instill a joy of learning!"

A Typical Day

"The daily class runs for 2 ½ hours. Our daily schedule allows for free play and crafts (fine motor skills), active free play (gross motor skills), group time (music, stories, finger play, etc.) and snack time. Through these daily activities children learn colors, shapes, numbers, letters, etc. This is not a daycare center format.
