Day in the Life

General School Mission

The Southeast Family YMCA strives to provide the children with a comfortable place where they enjoy coming and learn how to socialize with children of the same age; along with learning age appropriate small and large motor skills and basic early learning concepts.

A Typical Day

Children start off with stations upon entering their class, followed by crafts, circle time, snack, freetime, songs, as well as music and movement. Once a week they are given a half hour swim lesson and are in our Adventure Center which is a large semi padded area where the children can climb slide and pretend play with castle and climbing tunnels.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

The class room provides a bulletin board that keeps parents involved in health, emotional and behaviorial information. Parent teacher conferences are available in the spring or always upon request. The parents are invited into the classroom through out the year to participate with their children. Parents are asked to volunteer upon occassion; sign up sheets are on the bulletin board. Information is always sent home to parents along with information from the government relating to no child left behind for academics or parental tips.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Parents in classroom early on

Handling Separation: From the Director

The parents are welcome to stay with the child till the child and/or the parent is comfortable. The child will always be comforted by the teacher.
