Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Montessori, Waldorf, Reggio-Emilia

From the Director:

We offer a nurturing bi-lingual Spanish childcare environment for toddlers 2 to 4 years old. Our comfortable brownstone space is located on Tompkins Square Park for easy access to outdoor play. The center has a twenty five year history (formerly Tenth Street Tots) as an intimate, progressive, family-style preschool and is now making the transition to East Village Tots, honoring our history with new and energized leadership. We are an independent, non-profit program licensed by the Department of Health, and we follow developmentally appropriate practices set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children which focus on the idea that children learn through play. Our curriculum is inspired by the experiences and interests of the children, and allows for social, emotional, cognitive, languagge and physical development. Play is the work of childhood, so come get messy with us! Our hours are 8:30-3:00. Children may attend two to five days per week. The school is open through July, and holidays follow the New York City Board of Education calendar. Following an interview process, admissions are on a first come first served basis throughout the year space permitting.
