Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Cazenovia Children's House, Inc. believes in providing a safe, loving and enriching environment that contributes positively to each child's growth and development. The CCH staff plan for each day to enhance a child's social, cognitive, physical and emotional development. The staff understands the wide range of developmental abilities for each age. Therefore, each room varies in its approach to program development because the rooms are divided by age.

Each child is valued on an individual basis. Throughout the day, staff provides opportunities to build a child's healthy and positive self concept. Cultural diversity and the variety in family make up and background are respected. Children with special needs are referred to the appropriate professionals for assessment and to evaluate whether CCH or another situation would be in the child's best interest.

The staff understands that children learn through play. The environment is arranged so that children learn through active exploration with adults, other children and materials. These activities are concrete, real and relevant to the lives of the children. The play, activities and materials increase in difficulty, complexity and challenge as the children mature.

The programs at Cazenovia Children's House meet the developmental and educational needs of children from birth. Activities, appropriate for each age group, enrich and enhance each child's language and literacy skills, thinking skills, physical skills, self-control and self-confidence. Within each classrooms daily schedule, children have opportunities to create, explore materials, and learn problem-solving and personal interaction skills. Children learn concepts through self-directed experimenting and teacher directed activities, in both solitary play and as part of a group. Teachers provide care and support to children as individuals in a nurturing and responsive manner. We believe in the importance of children forming meaningful relationships with other children and significant adults in their lives. This will help children develop a positive self-concept. Children with a strong sense of self-confidence are more ready to learn, to love to cooperate and to be a part of a larger community. CCH believes that we are partners with families in the care, development and education of their children
