General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Teacher-Led

At Children's Choice Learning Centers, we believe each child is a unique individual. The goal of Children's Choice is to make childhood a wonderful and rich experience for every child who enters our doors. We guide with love and understanding because one of the most important gifts we can give a child is the gift of a healthy self-esteem, and we are sensitive to her social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs. We respect each child, nurture her spirit and embrace every culture so each child feels included. We value the children in our care, their families, and our educators. You will have peace of mind while at work knowing that your little one is not far from you. Parents are the most significant adults in a child's life, and we strive to create mutual respect between parents and teachers - a partnership for the benefit of the child. Our doors are open to parents at all times, and we encourage daily communication between parents and center staff. The strength of our program is the experience, expertise, and dedication of our educators. We support them with training, resources, and the freedom to create a unique, nurturing learning environment that fosters each child's creativity and positive self-image. We establish consistent and appropriate limits to help children function in their world and to develop a sense of independence and responsibility. We strive to strengthen each child's own cultural identity, while instilling a respect for others. Our educators teach Children's Choice Classics©, our proprietary, literacy-based curriculum, which is drawn from classic and contemporary children's literature for infants up to school age children. This approach to learning promotes a love for reading, teaches a respect for books, and encourages children to become lifelong learners. We encourage not just learning, but the love of learning. We believe in providing a physical environment that is safe, developmentally appropriate, and child friendly. Classrooms are arranged to offer challenging play and learning choices at a range of developmental levels. Learning centers allow children the opportunity to explore, to experience, and most importantly to succeed.

From the Director:

Classrooms are set up with five different centers. In each center there is a child-directed activity that co-insides with the curriculum and focus story of the week. Educators also provide a variety of teacher directed activities to reflect the same. This can be anything from reading a story, singing a song or putting together graphs that demonstrate the diversity in the classroom.

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Developmental milestones are skills that a child typically masters within a certain time frame. Each child moves through the developmental continuum at his own pace, if given the opportunity. Our developmental milestone checklists give our educators the specific skills for each age group - infants, toddlers, two-year-olds, and preschool/Pre-K. The educator can then offer activities that foster specific milestones and track each child's progress on his individual developmental milestone checklist.

A Typical Day

6:00a-11:00a Individual and small group, child-initiated and some teacher-directed activities that include art, music, manipulatives, dramatic play, and sand/water play. Snack center is incorporated. Diaper changing/restroom breaks and hand washing are ongoing.

11:00a-11:30a Outside play and curriculum.

11:30a-12:30 Lunch

12:30p-2:30p Nap and quiet time.

2:30p-3:30p Individual and small group, child-initiated and some teacher-directed activities that include art, music, manipulatives, dramatic play, and sand/water play. Snack center is incorporated. Diaper changing/restroom breaks and hand washing are ongoing.

3:30p-4:00p Outside play and curriculum.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Our educators verbally communicate daily with parents about their child's experiences in the classroom. Our infant, toddler, and twos educators also complete a written daily report that includes the activities that the child enjoyed, his accomplishments, and routines such as meals, diaper changing/toileting, and rest time. We offer parent-educator conferences at least twice a year and are happy to schedule conferences at any time at the parents' request.


Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
