Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Philosophy, Purpose and Intent

The purpose of the Episcopal Day School is to provide an environment, which will foster a child's intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual development. Underlying this philosophy is the premise that each child is a unique individual who's worth and dignity should be celebrated. Because students learn in a variety of ways and at differing rates, the focus is on the individual child, while at the same time acknowledging the child lives in relationship with others.

The Episcopal Day School will endeavor to revive the spirit of a neighborhood community school, a concept long cherished and proven effective. By having an open door policy in our county and encouraging parent participation in a voluntary manner, the child will benefit from the human resources of the neighborhood and share with great pride in the collective accomplishments of all concerned.

Highly qualified teachers and a low student-teacher ratio, in conjunction with an integrated curriculum will assist the child to:

1) Become self-directed and confident
2) Think and reason effectively
3) Approach problem solving in cooperative rather than competitive ways
4) Acquire a life-long love of learning
5) Appreciate the arts
6) Maintain physical vitality
7) Develop informed judgments that will enable him/her to make accountable moral choices, and become a socially responsible member of society.

In the tradition of Judeo-Christian Education, the Episcopal Day School teaches that wisdom comes from the love of God, and is achieved through the discipline and hard work necessary in understanding our fellow man. How we treat our fellow man is, therefore, not only a measure of our cultivation, but reveals the depth of our spirit. The curriculum of the school will always pursue what is noble in learning, not merely for its own sake, but for the benefit of others, for this truly educates the soul.

Parents are seen as partners in the governing and educational processes of the school. Parents participate through service on school committees and fulfilling a variety of work options.

The Episcopal Day School is non-denominational and non-discriminatory, open to anyone without regard to race, creed, nationality, or social economic background.
