General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Teacher-Led

From the Director:

We believe children learn through play, but also through teacher-led instruction that is brief to accommodate short attention spans, yet very engaging and interactive. Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Prior to the first day of preschool, all parents and students are asked to attend Open House to meet with their teachers in their classrooms. Parents are invited to attend Parent Orientation Meetings without their students to learn more about preschool expectations, classroom expectations and learn more about the upcoming year. Monthly newsletters are sent home, posted online on teacher webpages, which are updated weekly, and outside of each classroom. The newsletter reviews the topic and subjects for the month, reminders for class parties, snack duty, and other pertinent information. Weekly or daily reports are sent home, depending on the child's age. Children's skills are assessed during the first month of preschool and progress is assessed at the end of both semesters and reports are sent home. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled after the first semester reports are sent home. Parents are encouraged to communicate concerns immediately and not use parent-teacher conferences as the only means to discuss issues with students. Teachers are available for scheduled meetings with parents as needed after preschool.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation
  • Parents in classroom early on
