General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Montessori, Waldorf, Co-op

From the Director:

How is the school run? The school is owned, operated, administered, and maintained by the parents. Parents serve as educational assistants in the classroom, participate in fundraising, serve as Board members, and participate in parent/teacher meetings. They also contribute their talents to help enrich the classroom experience.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

At Friends of Mine, we highly value group and individual contributions to the larger community.

We encourage inclusive play, mutual responsibility, cooperation, and self-respect as the building blocks for important first friendships outside children’s family relationships.

We promote problem solving that keeps the group safe, active, and cooperative.

As parents and teachers, we try to model healthy group interactions through the work we do to keep the school running efficiently and harmoniously.

A Typical Day

Children's Daily Routine
8:55 Children arrive
9:00 Children engage in a variety of planned, thematic activities for center time
9:40 Circle time in big room (show & tell, story, song, calendar, weather, task assignments)
10:10 Wash hands, snack
10:30 Small center time with developmentally appropriate activities for age groups
10:45 Outside playground time
11:30 Enrichment Activities such as yoga, Music Together, Second Step and Spanish
12:00 Wash hands, lunch
12:25 Story time
12:45 Closing circle
