"Our approach to education is based on the teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori, one of the world's most respected educators. In a Montessori school the joy and delight of learning is matched by encouraging the values of hard work, self-discipline and integrity. In the Montessori classroom children develop their natural desires to learn, not only for school but also for life.
Dr.Montessori discovered that children learn best when all of their senses are involved in the learning process. She created materials for the children to manipulate and explore. This process develops self-discipline and fosters their natural curiosity. Through a balance of guidance and freedom, children develop a positive sense of self and of belonging to a community.
Primrose Montessori contains a broad array of Montessori materials and activities. We recognize that each child is a unique individual longing to develop. Primrose Montessori is a place where children explore, unfold, and blossom. Primrose Montessori is where children are prepared to begin their education for life.
Unique to the primary classroom (ages 3-kindergarten) are the concrete materials used to illustrate abstract ideas. The activities fall into four major areas: practical life, sensorial, language, and mathematics. Music, art, history, geography, gardening, physical education, and social graces are also part of the daily curriculum.
The children learn to work at tasks from the beginning to end, develop self-discipline and the capacity for concentration. Courtesy, respect, and grace naturally develop as the child grows in the Montessori community. The younger children are guided by the teacher and by observing and working with the other children.
Primrose Montessori was established in its current location in 1983 by Nancy Deskins. It is located in the university area of Missoula, Montana within easy walking distance of the U of M, neighborhood parks, and hiking trails."
