"The Center for Generation is a unique early childhood program in which the focus is on early childhood development and intergenerational programming. We believe that our children are positively affected by interaction with the elders at St. John’s. Conversely, we know that the elders are positively affected by the interactions with the children. Intergenerational programming at the Center for Generations occurs in many different ways. Through planned and spontaneous outings, activities, and events, even the youngest children at the Center are involved. Our focus with intergenerational programming is to provide opportunities to build respectful relationships with our elders.
The Center for Generations believes in providing a developmentally appropriate environment that enhances each child’s individual growth. The Center environment allows for children to be grouped according to their level. Each class group is designed to enhance the various stages of a child’s development. Through learning centers, children are encouraged to explore, play, and learn at their own pace. Teachers serve as facilitators in the learning process. With flexible but planned lessons and curriculum, children in all groups have experience in small and large group settings, active and quiet play times, structured and free choice activities. We believe that all children shall have daily opportunities for story time, music and movement, and a variety of art projects. Outdoor time is an essential part of our daily routine at the Center for Generations.
We are dedicated to providing a healthy, safe, and nurturing environment where children can play, learn, and explore the world around them. We've created a diverse curriculum that aims to support a child at every developmental stage and level.
Additionally, we are faith-based, but a non-denominational childcare facility. Activities such as prayer at meal times, Bible school, “singspiration”, and other church-related activities are ever present at the Center for Generations.
We, at the Center for Generations and St. John’s, live by the “Eden Alternative” which denotes a pet and plant friendly environment for all. Therefore, interaction with animals is a common occurrence in our Center environment.
