Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

From the Director:

We follow Project Construct Curriculum and the Missouri Preschool Standards of learning.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

We assess the children weekly and spend extra time with those that may need help catching up to the others. Sometimes we take them out in the hall where it is quiet if they have a hard time concentrating.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

PROGRAM GOALS:

GOAL #1- To provide an affordable, high quality preschool opportunity for the families of the West Plains R-7 School District. Despite the fact that there are excellent day care centers in the West Plains area, 80% of these centers do not provide an accredited preschool program taught by certified staff. The Head Start program reports a waiting list of 50-60 children from the West Plains School District. The preschool will become licensed and eventually accredited to insure that high quality services will be provided. The preschool will operate at no charge to patrons of the school district so that families of any economic status will have access to a quality preschool.

GOAL #2- To coordinate with Head Start to expand the services available to West Plains families and ultimately to develop an early childhood center where services will be available to all families.

GOAL #3- To provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their child’s preschool experience. Research has shown that parental involvement in education leads to greater academic success.

GOAL #4- To coordinate professional development opportunities with other facilities in the district. This will provide an opportunity for all facilities to strive toward reaching the high standards established by the State of Missouri. Encouragement and assistance in achieving accreditation will be offered to area facilities.

We have progress charts and observational notes available to parents at all times. We also have parent/teacher conferences and home visits during the school year to discuss progress and give the parents resources and ideas on how to help thier children at home.

Separation

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Parents in classroom early on
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year
