Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

From the Director:

Our infant building up through our early preschool program uses the Creative Curriculum and assesments. Our teachers plan a theme base curriculum within the Creative Curriculum Guidelines. Our 3 older preschool/prek classrooms are partnered with St. Paul Public Schools and utilize the Doors to Discovery Curriculum that is used through the St. Paul School District with Project Early Kindergarten. Our Preschool classrooms are also structured simular to a St. Paul kindergarten classroom so that children are familiar with the enviornment as well at the curriculum as they transition to school. We offer parents three parent teacher conference times through out the year. Literacy is a big part of Sandcastle Child Care. We are part of the Minnesota Reading Corps. We have professional corp members present in our preschool program to help our children develop early language skills that will help make them successful.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Let the children come to me. Then He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on each of them and blessed them." Mark 10: 14 -16

We believe each child needs:
to be
to belong
to achieve
to revere
to discover
to love and to be loved
in order to establish a good self-image.

We believe in helping a child grow:

Sandcastle Child Care is a Christian-oriented center where basic Christian and social values are experienced. Children from all races, creeds and religions are welcome to register. The teachers and staff selected to teach and work with your children are committed to our Christian philosophy. Harsh or threatening methods of discipline do not comply to our belief in teaching positive self-concepts. Each child is welcomed as an individual and we will attempt to meet his/her special needs. We make every effort to keep parents informed through notes on the Parent's Bulletin Board, monthly newsletter, notes to parents, and parent conferences. The center's program plans are avalable to parents. If at any time you feel your needs or the needs of your child are not met, please inform us. We want your child's stay with us to be a happy and pleasant learning experience.

Parents are welcome and encouraged to visit and to interact with their child during the hours the center is in operation.

A Typical Day

Our Preschool programs serve children ages 33 months to Kindergarten. We currently have 4 preschool classrooms.

We are licensed to serve 60 pre-school aged children.

The preschool program continues the child's development of social / emotional development, language development, cognitive, and physical skills through an environment introducing freedom within limits. This environment fosters an inner discipline gained from making choices, thereby developing independence, self-motivation, and increased creativity.

We serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. The children have rest period from 1-3 pm .

We use The Doors curriculum which is part of Project Early Kindergarten. Project Early Kindergarten aligns with the St. Paul Public Schools early Kindergarten programs.

Sandcastle offers the following enrichment programs to the children:

"Growing With Music" is a developmental music program for toddlers and preschoolers. Each week the children are guided through 30 minutes of musical activities to emphasize overall development while exposing them to important music concepts. This program is offered at an additional cost of $4.00 per week.

"Dancercise Kids" is a theme related exercise program that is offered to preschoolers weekly. This program teaches themes and concepts, while also engaging the children in dance and exercise. This is also offered at an additional cost that is paid directly to Dancercise corporate offices.
