General School Mission

"creativity, individuality, and self-worth"

At Little Acorns we believe that all children are special and unique. Therefore we consider it our greatest privilege to assist them in learning what we believe to be the most important lesson, how to be themselves. Of course, when it comes to this lesson, we know that the children are the experts, and we are merely assistants. Therefore, our curriculum is implemented in a way that provides the children with various opportunities to take action in planning, implementing, and reflecting on their own learning. We believe this is the best way to promote each child's creativity, individuality, and self-worth.

We believe that the interaction between a teacher and a child is an invaluable element to each child's journey. We believe that the type of attachment, or close emotional bond of affection, that develops between children and their caregivers has a significant impact on the rest of their lives. Therefore, at Little Acorns we train our caregivers to be sensitive to the cues that children give and to be responsive in a nurturing way that promotes both security and growth.

"safe and friendly environment"

We believe that the environment we supply is also invaluable. Our first priority in the environment is safety - we are dedicated to keeping children safe by demanding the highest of safety standards. We also discuss safety with the children, because we know that they need to feel safe to fully explore their environment. Another important priority in the environment is enrichment. We enrich the environment to promote learning by organizing our classrooms into learning centers and enriching each center each week by adding projects, items, and other learning opportunities that are of interest. We also enrich the environment through our enrichment programs, such as Spanish and Music.
