"Child development experts now confirm what New Horizon Academy has always known. The first five years of life are crucial to a child’s self-esteem, brain development and learning potential. Child development researchers validate the importance of the early years in the development of a child’s physical, emotional, social and cognitive capabilities. Something as simple as a game of peek-a-boo can actually cause physical changes in the brain, affecting how its intricate circuitry is “wired.” In a matter of seconds, thousands of cells in a child’s growing brain respond. Some brain cells are “turned on,” activated by this particular experience, some existing connections among brain cells are strengthened. At the same time, new connections are formed, adding a bit more definition to the circuitry that will largely remain in place for life. An early education that combines stimulating activity with loving attention enables a young child to become emotionally secure, socially competent, and intellectually capable. As educators of young children, we recognize our role in affecting how children’s brains develop. We are committed to this crucial period of growth.
We also believe that the exploration, investigation and interaction that takes place when children play is a critical part of development and learning. In order to support the play and development of children, New Horizon Academy has created unique curriculum programs for the children in our care.
