General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"We believe that children must be treated as honored guests. They must be shown respect, and their dignity must always be maintained.
Teachers should know the child's parents and have an understanding of his/her home culture. All families must be celebrated and accepted. Uniqueness is a positive attribute of each child, and we must accept him/her for who he/she is. Every child should know that he/she is a special child of God.
The teacher's role is to facilitate learning. Teachers encourage learning by asking questions to help the child reflect on what they have learned and by giving positive feedback.
Children learn best through play, exploring their world with all their senses. Learning is fun for children. The more they do, the more successful they are, and that encourages them to go on to more difficult, higher tasks.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Parents receive a daily report on children. There is an open house each year. We send home a homework calendar, that has activities for home that correspond to what is happening in school. Children are assesed three times a year and parent-teacher meetings are set to share the results. Parents can meet with teachers as needed.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation
  • Parents in classroom early on

Handling Separation: From the Director

Teachers are available to work with children. Children are told a "Mommy/Daddy Story," that consists of showing them the street where Mom/Dad will drive to come to the center. They are given the whole sequence of what their parents will do to come and get them. Once we go through this session, they calm down and understand that Mom/Dad is coming back. This give the child the assurance that it is ok for them to be at preschool and that they can look forward to Mom/Dad returning.
