Day in the Life

A Typical Day

" A Typical Day
Two Morning Class
Tue-Thurs
8:50 Parent Helpers arrive and prepare to assist the arrival of the children. Teacher gives guidance on the day's activities.

9:00 Arrival: Greeting time for children and adults. Children move directly into activity choices.

9:00 - 10:15 Free choice time: Children choose activities-art explorations, blocks, dress-ups, trucks, domestic and imaginative play, games, sand and water play, math and science projects, books.

10:15- 10:35 Classroom cleanup: We clean our classrooms together then Gather in the Rug Room for Circle Time to discuss the day or share, read a story or present a concept or build community. Choosing a book to read to yourself provides a serene transition into Circle Time. Music and Movement are a part of each day's group time.

10:35-10:45 Bathroom and Handwashing: Children go to the bathroom as a group to use the toilet, if needed, and wash hands for snack. The
snack parent and child will set up snack at this point.

10:45-10:55 Snack and dressing for outdoors.

11:00-11:30 Outdoors or in the auditorium on rainy or icy days. Free choice active play.

12:15 -1:00 Children arrive on playground; greeting time for children and adults; free choice active play; in the \"Big Room\" on rainy or icy days.

1:00-1:05 Transition to the classroom.

1:05-1:20 Gather in Rug Room to share, plan the day, present a concept, build community, enjoy music and movement.

1:20-2:20 Free choice for children (art projects, blocks, dress-ups and imaginative play, games, sand and water play science projects, books...), adults in assigned rooms.

2:20-2:30 Classroom clean up, bathroom and hand washing.

2:30-2:50 Snack preparation, quiet reading time, group, story music and movement on some days.

2:50-2:55 Hand washing before snack.

2:55-3:10 Snack.

3:10-3:15 Dismissal from bottom of stairs near parking lot entrance.

11:50 Parent Helper Arrives.

12:00-1:15 Free Choice Time: Children choose activities--art
explorations, blocks, dress-ups, trucks, domestic and
imaginative play, games, sand and water play, computer,
science projects, books, etc.

1:15-1:25 Clean-up: Everyone helps to tidy up our classroom.

1:25-1:40 Music and Movement: A transition activity as children
return to the group. We sing, play rhythm instruments, or
play musical games, which leads us into-
Circle Time -- a community building experience giving
children an opportunity to discuss their day, shares ideas
listen to a story and explore new concepts.

1:40-1:50 Bathroom and Handwashing: Children go to the
bathroom as a group to use the toilet, if needed, and wash hands for
snack. The snack parent and child will set up snack at
this time.

1:50-2:10 Snack.

2:10-2:20 Dress for Outdoors.

2:20-3:00 Outdoor Play - We will play in Metcalf Hall on rainy, icy
or very cold days.

8:35 Parent Helper: Parent Helper arrives and sets up snack in the art room, then returns to the playground to assist in playground supervision. Teacher gives guidance on the day's activities.

8:45-9:15 Children arrive on playground: Greetings and active play.

9:15 - 9:30 Transition to Indoors: Bathroom visit and hand washing on way to classroom. Hang up coats in hall and go into snack.

9:30-9:40 Snack

9:40-10:00 Gathering Time: Singing. Sharing. Story. Parent helper cleans up snack, puts out art projects.

10:00 - 11:15

Free Choice: Children choose activities--art explorations, blocks, dress-ups, trucks, domestic and imaginative play, games, sand and water play, science projects, books etc.

11 :15 - 11 :25 Clean Up

11:25-11:40 Circle: Singing

11:45 Dress, go downstairs. Dismissal"
