Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Teacher-Led

From the Director:

We believe each child is a unique individual. We strive to provide a loving, nurturing and creative environment for children. We are sensitive to their social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs. We provide developmentally appropriate programs which include; basic readiness skills, number recognition, language development, and large and small gross motor skills, that focus on the process of learning while also helping them to enjoy many other successful experiences. Other subjects taught

From the Director:

We believe in providing a physical environment that is safe, clean, healthy and child friendly. Classrooms are arranged to offer challenging play and learning choices at a range of developmental levels. Learning centers allow children the opportunity to explore, to experience, and most importantly...to succeed.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Teachers evaluate each child according to their level of learning and work with the child at that level. Teachers put together a curriculum that will meet the needs of each child's academic ability. Supplemental materials can always be used if a child is either "behind" or "excelling". Children are motivated by doing activities that are fun and rewarding.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

Our Center values people: the children in our care, their parents, and our staff. We continually work to earn the trust placed in us. We strive each day to provide the best early childhood educational services possible. Our main goals are:
To expose the child to the environment in which he/she lives;
To develop the child's social awareness;
To bridge the gap between home and school;
To offer challenging and satisfying activities for the development of creative abilities; and
To develop reading readiness, gross motor skills, number recognition and language development

A Typical Day

What we teach is not always apparent to the casual observer. We set the stage in order to guide the children unobtrusively. Routine restrictions are few because we try to avoid regimentation. However, through adult guidance and association with his/her playmates, the child is being prepared for self-control at the pace he/she can absorb. The following outline is designed to give you some insight into the layout of our program:

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Communication between the school and parents is essential. We have an open door policy so that parents are welcome any time. We have a Parent-Teacher Organization that meets once per month to discuss fund raisers for the school and activities and guest speakers parents would like to see at our school. We also hold Parent-Teacher conferences twice per year to present a Progress Report on your child and discuss any questions or concerns you may have. We also take several field trips throughout the year where parents are encouraged to join us and chaperone.

Separation

Handling Separation: From the Director

Separation anxiety is handled by first reassuring the child that their Mom or Dad will be coming back and bringing the child to the window to wave good bye to Mom or Dad. Then we make the child feel comfortable in a new environment by inviting other children to join him/her in an activity that would get their mind off of the parent/parents being away.
