Temple Beth Shalom Children's Center (TBSCC) offers a caring, developmentally appropriate hands-on, discovery-based environment which allows children to develop to their full potential. The program focuses on encouraging children's social, emotional, cognitive and physical development, with careful attention to their Jewish heritage and what it can mean to their life, in fostering self-esteem, and nurturing individual development. Our goal is to develop curious learners with high self-esteem and respect for others.
Self-directed play, creative time and lots of activities, both indoors and out, fill the day. There is a large gross motor indoor play space for the children to use daily. When the children enter the classroom, they are greeted by a teacher and then given the freedom to explore the various learning activities and interest centers that have been prepared for them. These centers can be changed daily, weekly or hourly. Each day is special, opening up new worlds to conquer and offering new things to try.
A teacher is always nearby to lend support and guidance, answer a question, offer a challenging statement, make a suggestion, and set up those special times such as circle time, story time, quiet or noisy time, music time, rhythmic activity and dancing, outdoor time to run, climb, play, balance, or dig in the sandbox. These times allow for closeness between child and child or between teacher and child. These are times to grow, explore, experiment, discover and play. There is a structured schedule that is followed daily; however, we tailor every day to the needs of the children.
