Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

From the Director:

We use many montessori activities, with a center / play based curriculum. We utilize teacher direction and encouragement, helping children to extend their learning at a developmentaly appropriate level.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Teachers use portfolio assesment to monitor children throughout the year. Conferences are held in the fall and spring to discuss children's development. Teachers may also hold additional conferences on an as needed basis. If a child as been recognized as one that is either, declining, excelling, or not thriving in the environment, the tachers and parents would meet to discuss the steps necessary to ensure the child is properly encouraged. Each circumstance would be different and would warrant a different approach.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

We hold an Open House at the begining of the school year to "walk" parents through our programs. At that time we discuss curriculum, hand out Parent Handbooks, answer questions etc. we send home monthly Parent Folders from the school office at the beginning of each month with a center newsletter, extended learning suggestions, acitivities within and oiutside of the church and many other helpful pieces of information.

Parents Say They are Encouraged to:

  • Sit on the board of trustees
  • Hold social events at the school to build community
  • Are able to visit the school anytime we want
  • Go on field trips
  • Volunteer in the classroom
  • Receive newsletters

Modes of Communication

  • Notes
  • Phone Calls
  • Email
  • Special Meetings
  • Two or More Regular Conferences
  • Drop-Off
  • Regular newsletter/printed updates circulated to the whole school

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Small group sessions
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

Through understanding, love and care and lots of tissues for moms and dads. If we were to encounter a situation when a child was not improving and feeling more comforted over time, we would meet with parents to discuss options to better comfort the child.
