"The goal of The Learning Garden is to take each child where he/she is developmentally and to guide the child in continuing development - socially, physically, emotionally, and intellectually:
To provide opportunities to increase acceptable behavior in social play through blocks, housekeeping, work bench, sand/water table, and snack time.
To provide opportunities for sharing ideas, toys and equipment.
To assist in understanding and following simple directions.
To develop skills to take care of the child's own needs, e.g. putting on and taking off wraps, zipping, buttoning, lacing, tying, fastening, and self help in the bathroom.
To develop coordination through climbing, running, jumping, skipping, swinging, etc.
To develop small muscle coordination through cutting, pasting, coloring, painting, drawing, puzzles, table games, clay, etc.
To develop ability to recognize and identify colors and shapes.
To develop music appreciation through rhythmic activities, singing, listening, and dramatizing.
To develop listening skills and appreciation of literature through poetry, stories, and drama.
To develop science awareness through animal world, plant world, weather, five senses, magnets, machines, transportation, measuring, and experiments.
To assist in recognizing and writing his/her own name.
To enhance readiness for reading through development of muscle coordination, fine motor skills, and cognitive activities designed for reading readiness.
To enhance readiness for math through recognition of numerals, one to one relationship between numbers, simple addition and subtraction.
To develop an understanding of time: clock, days of the week, months of the year, calendar, and seasons.
To introduce the concept of holidays.
To provide experience in simple cooking and nutrition concepts.
