General Approach to Learning: Montessori

Day in the Life

General School Mission

" The famed Montessori Method developed as the result of years of observation and study of young children and the way they learn. This educational program draws on the scientific finding that even months-old children have an innate capacity and special need to learn about the world around them.
The discovery of special stages of learning and the materials and equipment required to foster learning at each stage is a feature of this way of schooling. The approach recognizes that young children progress through each learning stage at their own pace and that children of different ages will teach and learn from one another.

Children's House helps individuals learn and grow at their own rate with consideration for differences in age, temperament, drives and capabilities. In the school's carefully prepared environment, children are free to move about and to choose their own materials and activities. They are asked to treat themselves, others and the classroom with care and respect.

The learning materials are divided into five major categories; Sensory-motor, practical life, geography, language and mathematics.
There is also ample time devoted to exploring art, music, movement, and the world of nature. Most children who enroll in the program for the full three years worked with all the materials and are fully prepared for first grade.
