Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

From the Director:

Our children spend part of the day in play-based instruction and part of the day in teacher-led instruction. Activities range from whole class to small group to individualized.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

We believe that children are individuals and they do not all develop at the same rate. Some are naturally inclined in social areas, some in creative areas, some in communication skills and others in academic areas. We try to address each child's strengths as well as their needs in order to prepare them for their next step in their school journey.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

Our children spend their time divided between whole class, small group and individual activities. We learn by hands-on, active learning experiences. Part of the day is driven by structured, teacher-centered lessons such as story and music time, as well as circle time. Part of the day is driven by the children's free choices during center time.

A Typical Day

1. Gathering time activity such as puzzles or play dough
2. Circle time, including prayer, calendar and a unit lesson
3. Center time in which child makes choices for independent or cooperative play as well as time for individual time with teachers working on projects such as crafts or a game
4. Group Lesson, including phonics for older children
5. Outdoor play, restroom and snack
6. Music and story time

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Communication between home and school is an important part of a successful preschool program. At the beginning of each month our teacher sends home a monthly calendar highlighting thematic units as well as special events. At the end of each week, the teacher sends home a newsletter about what we've been learning and accomplishing at school as well as what's coming up next.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
