"Quest Academy, an independent day school for children from preschool through eighth grade, admits students who show evidence of exceptional intellectual capability. By providing these gifted students with a rich, rigorous and differentiated curriculum, Quest prepares them for competitive higher education programs and productive professional careers while inspiring a lifelong love of scholarship and appreciation of the arts.
Quest's curriculum is based on a traditional liberal arts education with equal emphasis on the sciences, the humanities, and the arts. Class work revolves around hands-on, interdisciplinary projects that allow students to delve into subjects in depth. Through a variety of spontaneous discussions and presentations, as well as planned performances, students experience joy in learning and satisfaction in sharing their knowledge and skills with classmates and the larger community. These approaches develop well-rounded students who are original thinkers, willing to take intellectual risks and able to give and accept constructive criticism.
Quest's staff teaches self-acceptance and empathy, nurturing the positive aspects of giftedness while minimizing those traits that hinder healthy social-emotional development. While giftedness can isolate a child, we provide camaraderie among intellectual peers. Giftedness may include perfectionism and an avoidance of challenges; we teach children to expect errors and learn from them.
Quest's outstanding teachers serve as the backbone of the program, exemplifying integrity, intelligence, compassion, and lighthearted wit. Quest reaches out to the community in three ways: first, by training bright students in the skills, attitudes, and knowledge necessary for leadership; second, by encouraging students and faculty to carry out community service projects; and third, by serving as an open-door model for other educational institutions. In addition, through presentations and publications, Quest's administrators and faculty communicate to the larger world their innovative teaching techniques and unique experiences with gifted children.
