General School Mission

"The purpose of St. John Lutheran School is first and foremost to follow the command of God to preach the Gospel to all people. Therefore St. John Lutheran School teaches students that God would have all men to be saved through His Son, Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and glory forever.

In order to accomplish this in an education setting, St. John provides a Christ centered education for children of the northwest suburban Chicago area without distinction to race, socio-economic status or religious creed. Our aim is to provide an education:

* a. That is in accord with the inspired and inerrant Word of God and the Lutheran Confessions;
* b. That possesses academic excellence, spiritual depth and moral integrity in a wholesome environment;
* c. That trains students in the knowledge of and obedience to the Holy Scriptures, and promotes loyalty to God and the Church;
* d. That prepares students for productive and God pleasing participation in a democratic society.

St. John Lutheran School exists as an early childhood and elementary school encompassing grades PK3 through 5. It is operated as a non-profit, educational ministry of St. John Lutheran Church of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and is governed by the Board of Christian Education elected from its membership, and is under the general supervision of its Voters Assembly.

St. John Lutheran School seeks to serve three publics in the northwest suburban area of Chicago, (1) the member families of St. John, (2) unchurched families, (3) families from other denominations. St. John Lutheran School values the family and supports the family in its role of raising children. St. John assists its member families in the Christian education of their children under Lutheran doctrines. St. John respects the authority of families from other denominations to have their children hold in esteem the distinctive doctrines of the families own church. St. John also has a special interest in the child from an unchurched family which agrees to have the child instructed in the fundamentals of the Christian faith so that he or she too may some day be called to a new life in Christ. Therefore, St. John strongly encourages families to worship regularly at the church of their choice and invites unchurched families to consider St. John as a worship home.

The objective of St. John is to encourage the development of each child that his or her life may grow in: Spiritual development for a life rich in the use of worship, prayer, the Word and the Sacraments; Physical development for a healthy life; Intellectual development for a life blessed with knowledge, critical thinking and creativity; Social development for a life blessed with healthy personal relationships, respect for the rights of others and a willingness to accept social responsibilities; Aesthetic development for a life of appreciation for the cultural heritages of the world."
