School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Teacher-Led

From the Director:

Welcome to Long Grove Country School. We are located on 5 beautiful acres in Long Grove. Our students will have the unique opportunity to have a very hands on learning experience and take advantage of learning while exploring different areas of our property. Long Grove Country School offers Preschool Programs, Lunch & Fun, and Enrichment Classes (September:  Busy Builders, Green Gardeners, Animal Rescuers, Treasure Hunters, and Nanny Plan & Play) for children of all ages. The new preschool curriculum for Theme Based Learning will allow our students to learn concepts through a balance of learning opportunities in our classroom settings and the ability to explore nature on site. Each week, a book or a story will be the theme core. These lessons will be reinforced by exposure to animal encounters, art, books, fitness, math, music, nature, science, social studies, theatre and technology. Private parties, Scout trips, and private animal encounters are available. Our long term goal is to add apple orchards, hands on animal encounters, gardening, and other outdoor activities for children and families.  We will have family events like picnics and movies in the park.  These will all be available immediately on a smaller scale and enhanced/expanded over time.   The curriculum will be incorporating Benchmarks from the Illinois Early Learning Standards published by the Illinois State Board of Education’s Division of Early Childhood Education.
