We feel that not all children are ready for five days in school at these early ages. Therefore, Chalkboard offers not only a five day program but two and three day programs also. The morning session meets from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm and the afternoon session meets from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. These Programs are available for all age groups and you choose the number of days you want your child to attend. The attitude of The Chalkboard is to provide for your child an environment that will influence his or her natural curiosity both intellectually and socially while at the same time retain your child’s individuality. The curriculum will emphasize art, crafts, cooking, music, science and all types of play activities. Although there is not a heavy emphasis on readiness, we feel it is something the children are learning through our daily activities. We do not always stick to a rigid schedule. If a learning experience presents itself the teachers and children will take advantage of it. At the same time the program strives to teach respect for personal belongings and the belongings of others. It is very important for the children to learn how to get along with their peer groups.
Children come into school at 9:00a.m. or 1:00p.m. and spend the first hour and one half of their day enjoying free play. During this time they are welcome to complete at least one art activity most likely two or explore a small motor task. They may also choose to play with their friends at the sand table, kitchen area, dress-up area, jungle gym or explore the many toys available to them during this time. After free play the children gather on the "circle" for sharing time and talking about the calendar and current events. We then do a group clean-up and get ready for snack. After snack the children go back to the circle for story and music. When weather allows we spend time outdoors as well.
Chalkboard hosts an Open House every September prior to the first day of classes for all new students and their parents. The Open House allows the students and parents to become aquainted with the teachers and the classrooms before beginning school. We are always available to the parents on an individual basis should they have concerns regarding their child. If there is a concern regarding a child the parent will be notified and arrangements will be made for a meeting between the teachers and parents.
