General School Mission

Louis May Alcott's mission is to become a school that reflects the best of 21st Century America - blending the strengths of a diverse population to benefit all. Our prestigious Lincoln Park location already attracts motivated students and families from across Chicago, giving us a wide-ranging multicultural population. We hope to share our cultural riches with a comparable number of neighborhood children, who, in turn, will bring skills, values, and experiences to the mix. As a center for community activity, we look forward to transitioning into a balanced neighborhood/choice school.

Our mission also is to provide a cohesive and effective curriculum that meets the needs of students while honoring multiple intelligences and individual learning styles. Hands-on engaged learning, innovative approaches, fine arts integration, and increased parent/neighborhood involvement combine to create a dynamic climate of collaboration, respect, and challenge for every member of the Alcott educational community.
