Akiba-Schechter Pre-School and Kindergarten is an accredited program open to all children. We are a community school that creates a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment for children to learn through active exploration and play. At Akiba-Schechter, we believe that youth is precious and that growth cannot be rushed.

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based

At Akiba-Schechter, we believe that youth is precious and that growth cannot be rushed. The developmental stages children must go through in order to be happy and successful take time and energy on the part of the teacher and the student. No two children are alike; each has individual strengths and weaknesses. We believe that each child is unique and deserves to be cherished. Children’s similarities and differences need to be celebrated. Our teachers work hard to identify each child’s needs and help him or her integrate into the group.

Other subjects taught Each week we have specials that include: Yoga, Music and Library. We cook at least once a week in each of our pre-school classrooms and Kindergarten. In the 4 and up pre-school classes we swim once times a week in the Spring, and in the Kindergarten we swim once a week in the Fall and Spring.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Our small class size and student to teacher ratio's enable our teachers to spend quality time with each child throughout the day. Our teachers are all devoted and passionate about the school and thus we have a very low turnover ratio in staff. We have staff that have been at the school for over 20 years. Each of our rooms have co-teachers, not assistants.
