Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Moscow Day School strives for a family atmosphere. Throughout the day both rooms come together, so the younger children learn from their older peers, and the older children experience the satisfaction and confidence that comes from helping their younger classmates.
Classroom activities are designed to accomplish certain objectives but children are free to move about, ask questions, or choose another project if they desire. We keep our teacher-student ratio low to ensure this kind of flexibility.
Behavioral rules are based on treating others with respect and politeness, and are modeled for the children by their teachers and aides.
Our students are encouraged to view their peers as teammates in learning, and are never pressured to compete with others. They are guided by the teachers and aides who seek to support each child's development. The staff carefully monitors this individual development and shares their observations with parents at formal and informal conference times.
While the staff recognizes their serious responsibilities, they also understand that fun and laughter are important elements in an early childhood curriculum. The purpose of the school is to nurture and strengthen children's natural curiosity and love of learning, while teaching then to have fun together!

A Typical Day

"7:30-9:00 A.M. Supervised Child Care
The children play with minimal teacher direction. We have toys for children to play with, so there is no need for children to bring toys from home.
9:00 A.M. School Starts
Please be on time; it is helpful to have no interruptions.
9:00-9:15 A.M. Free Play
Time to welcome and interact with each other before group time starts.
9:15-9:40 A.M. Group Time
Group time functions to draw everyone together to start the day.
9:40-10:00 A.M. Snack
The children are responsible for washing their hands, sitting down at the table, serving themselves, and washing their own cups when they are done. We always provide nutritional and healthy snacks.
10:00-11:10 A.M. Activity Time
The older children begin to work with their teachers in the pre-K/kindergarten room. The younger children are in the preschool room with their teachers to work on the morning's planned activities. This includes writing, reading, science, math, or artwork. Other activities include free play with blocks, dramatic play area, or some other teacher directed/initiated activity.
11:10-11:25 A.M. Clean-Up Time
Each child cleans his or her play area up.
11:25-11:45 A.M. Recess
Children play on the playground outside the building or downstairs in the gym. Please consider the outside temperature and moisture when helping your child prepare for school. All children need to get fresh air and exercise.
11:45 A.M.-12:30 P.M. Lunch
Children eat the lunches they bring to school. When they are done eating, we get ready to go outside or downstairs.
12:30-1:00 P.M. Recess
1:00 - 1:20 P.M. Group Time
(Same as 9:15-9:40 A.M.) Napping children go into the preschool room to nap. Please notice the napping board. It will tell you the amount of sleep your child received.
1:20-2:30 P.M. Activity Time
All of the afternoon children are together, except for the nappers, at this time. Different activities are available for the varying ages of children.
