Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

From the Director:

"Social Skills:  Meeting new friends and interacting with them during play or activity time is very important to young children. Our emphasis on sharing, helping others, and taking turns provides a basis for warm, happy relationships among children. Emotional Development:  We believe that lifelong personality and behavioral patterns are established during the critical early years of a child's life. Our teachers offer close personal attention and careful loving guidance to meet your children¹s needs of being accepted, feeling secure, developing a positive self-esteem, and relating well with others. Physical Development:  We emphasize physical fitness and coordination with regular exercise programs.  We use a wide variety of recreational equipment which make staying fit safe and fun for your child. Rest periods to meet individual needs are also part of our daily schedule.  Nutritional and balanced lunches are supplemented by morning and afternoon snacks to ensure that your children receive the nourishment necessary to support their active lifestyles and development. Intellectual Development:  Our goal is to encourage your children to form a solid foundation for learning.  Recent research on brain development reveals that there are times in each child's growth for acquiring new skills. We strive to ensure that each of our classrooms takes advantage of these windows of opportunity for optimum development. In partnership with you, we seek to enable your children discover and develop their individual talents and abilities. Creative Skills:  Creativity and individual expression are important links in the development of young minds. Through creative arts and expressive play activities, our staff encourages your children to explore and develop their creativity. " Excerpted from Preschools Website

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Every child is uniquely blessed with the ability to learn, and should be provided with developmentally appropriate opportunities conducive to learning guided by knowledgeable and loving hands.

Children need to experience childhood. The individuality of each child should not be lost in an effort to teach. Learning should be a natural, rewarding, and fun experience for children based upon their interests and developmental patterns.

At The Sunshine House, we strive to provide the best in educational opportunities for the children in our care, while maintaining that delicate balance between learning and individuality. We strive to instill in children some basic core values such as respect for one another and pride in our country. Our goal is to prepare children for today and for the rest of their lives in a loving and educationally-sound atmosphere."
