Day in the Life

General School Mission

SSUMC Preschool is an outreach and educational ministry of the church. We believe it is our privelege to guide the social, physical, intellectual and spiritual development of each child. We provide opportunities for children to learn through play with a balance of self-discovery and teacher directed activities. We have created an environment full of Christian love and commit ourselves to helping your child learn and grow in many ways by providing a loving, stimulating and safe learning environment.

A Typical Day

In addition to classroom activities, children receive Music, Kindergym, weekly Chapel, Storytelling, and Spanish for 4s and Young 5s. Children go to the playground daily or to the gym in inclement weather.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

Teachers communicate to parents through monthly calendars of activities and newsletters. Teachers communicate individually with parent as needed. Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled twice each year. Skill assessments are provided to parents at conferences. An open house is held at the beginning of each school year with the Director and individual teachers. The Director does a monthly newsletter for parents. The Director is able to refer parents to community based services as needed.

Separation

Separation is Handled through:

  • Pre-entry meetings with parents at school
  • Small group sessions
  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation
  • Abbreviated schedule at start of school year

Handling Separation: From the Director

We have a children's open house before the start of school to give children an opportunity to come to school with a arent to become famliar with their classrooms and teahers. We have parents walk children in for the first week before starting carpool, longer for the younger children. Children who have difficulty with separation can come for a shorter day and ease in to a longer day. We work with parents to make the transition to school a smooth one.
