"Each child is an individual and the rate of development in different areas varies very much from one child to another.
A good preschool program takes into account the varying degrees of development in each child, and takes as its starting point the stage of development at which the child is.
All areas of development are taken account of; physical, emotional, social and intellectual. Intellectual growth depends very much on the other types of development mentioned.
Learning in young children takes place all the time - the foremost ways in which young children learn about the world are through play and through experience offered to them.
Play contributes to the following areas of development:
a) self-expression through choices available to the child.
b) independence through being allowed to try own ideas.
c) confidence by achieving what one sets out to do.
d) knowledge from investigating ideas in or out of home.
e) maturity by using own new found knowledge and skills.
f) social confidence by interacting with other kids & adults.
g) joy of learning familiar words in the French language"
