"At Step Ahead Academy, we believe that children learn best from first hand experience and active involvement in an environment where they have the freedom to make their own choices and discoveries. We also believe that all children have the innate ability to construct their own knowledge, and that they do this through play. This is best accomplished by providing an environment with developmentally appropriate learning opportunities, where the role of the caregiver is to facilitate and guide children through the learning and discovery process.
Each individual child is unique in temperament and rate of development. Therefore, we use the DLM (Developmental Learning Materials) curriculum designed to enhance and challenge the distinct individual needs, interests and abilities of each child. We offer a wide variety of opportunities for each child to develop physically, socially, emotionally and cognitively according to their own individual learning style. Activities and relationships occur in a healthy, positive, relaxed environment in which a qualified staff provides personal attention and guidance to each child.
By helping children to develop an early love of learning, we enable them to enhance their own abilities and grow to their fullest potentials. We believe that it is our job to help children learn to help themselves, and thereby grow into confident, responsible, and productive adults. Our mission and responsibility as caregivers is to that end.
Through cooperative staff planning, we strive to maintain continuity and consistency throughout our program. By planning cooperatively, staff members benefit from the sharing with other staff members while growing individually as professionals, and are encouraged to utilize individual professional strengths as they work with children
