"It is the philosophy of Pinecrest Presbyterian Day School that early childhood is an important and
critical time for establishing attitudes about school and learning. Our purpose is to provide an
atmosphere that encourages the development of the whole child and encourages a love of learning.
Through the use of developmentally appropriate activities that take into account that children learn in
different ways we will provide a multitude of experiences to foster all areas of a child's development.
We feel each child needs years of play with real objects and events before they are ready to understand
the meaning of symbols, such as letters and numbers. Learning takes place as young children touch,
manipulate and experiment with things and interact with people. We have in place a curriculum which
considers the process of learning rather than the product.
We believe that parents are the principal influence in a child's life. A partnership between parent and
teacher is very important because it gives the child a support system for success in school. We believe
in open communication."
