Other subjects taught Bible

From the Director:

We utilize the ABeka nursery and preschool curriculum for our 3 and 4 year old students. By the time our four year olds advance to kindergarten they are reading simple books. Both ages have a strong emphasis on number and letter recognition which leads to a strong foundation for reading and math skills.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

Our teachers are always willing to work with students individually every day. They naturally work with students who may be falling behind others in the class to encourage them and evaluate where they can reteach a concept. Parent communication occurs regularly to keep parents informed of praises and reinforcements needed at home.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Kings Avenue Christian School is a ministry of Kings Avenue Baptist Church. It was specifically organized to train students in a Christian environment. Our goal is to train up students who are Christians called to be wise, understanding and knowledgeable. The purpose of KACS is to provide Christian education that will lead students to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We will provide spiritual and academic training enabling our students to purse God's calling for their lives. We will work together as a team to instill confidence in our students for success. We will use the Bible as the cornerstone for daily growth and guidance interwoven with spiritual truth. We are committed to provide an education, promoting excellence and balance in mental, physical, and spiritual statue that prepares our students for higher education, vocational and life experiences. This is our commitment as written in Colossians 1:9-12. For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.. Our continuing effort throughout students lives is to promote and live a life according to Colossians 3:17 which states: "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." We will achieve and fulfill our mission by: Providing students a high quality, full and balanced educational experience based upon Biblical teaching and principles. Attracting and retaining exceptional teachers skilled at teaching, demonstrating Christian behavior, and having the highest competence in specific areas. Attracting and retaining exceptional administrators and staff who will manage the assets of the school and who will continually develop the teachers, programs, activities and curriculum to meet the needs of the students. Assuring the fiscal integrity of the school by minimizing debt and controlling costs. Developing and maintaining a future oriented master plan that specifically describes the short and long-term goals that will lead to the mission being accomplished.

A Typical Day

Our preschool students spend each day engaged in small and large group activities. They do pledges, prayer time, calendar, weather bear, phonics, handwriting, basic math skills such as number recognition and simple facts, read stories, music, free play, and daily Bible lessons. Throughout the week they learn Bible verses, songs, and engage in learning activities as guided by the ABeka curriculum utilized in each classroom. Our children learn using a variety of methods from music, art, learning games, and individual practice under the teacher's guidance. We are a school environment and not a traditional daycare setting. Learning is fun and growth is readily seen by parents.

Home-School Connection

Home-School Connection: From the Director

We have an open house at the start of each year to allow teachers to review their classroom management methods with parents. We also use a daily log to notify parents of events, individual concerns and accomplishments. A parent communication folder is issued to each student for notices from the school office and other classroom information. This folder is used on a daily basis and parents can use this to send notes to the school or teacher. Parent conferences are formally scheduled twice yearly, but may be held at anytime as requested by the parent or teacher. Progress reports are issued twice each quarter to give parents feedback on skill development during the year.

Separation is Handled through:

  • Extra staff dedicated to handle separation

Handling Separation: From the Director

We have extra staff on hand during the first few days of school to help calm the little ones as needed. We do allow parents to escort their child to class on the first day of school and sometimes the first couple of days if necessary to help the child feel more secure. We always promise the parent that we will notify them if their child is having extreme difficulty in adjusting. We work with the parent to best meet each child's needs on an individual basis during this adjustment period at the start of the year.
