Philosophy & Approach

School Philosophy

General Approach to Learning: Play-Based, Montessori

From the Director:

Wilmington Montessori School values each child as an individual with unique educational, physical, emotional and social needs. An individualized approach and non-competitive atmosphere help children grow and learn at their own pace. Respect for oneself, others and the environment is stressed at all levels. All of this is done in classrooms that are child-centered rather than teacher directed, giving children freedom to grow and learn within a prepared and structured environment.

Quality of Teaching

Individualized Teaching: From the Director

The Montessori Method allows teachers to work with individuals and focus on their talents and interests, along with offering special instruction in areas in which the child may face special challenges. Multi-age classrooms also allow older children who have mastered a particular skill to teach younger children.

Day in the Life

General School Mission

Wilmington Montessori School is a collaborative learning community rooted in Montessori principles, inspiring the joyful discovery of self and a passion for learning and independent thinking. We empower children to be knowledgeable and responsible contributors to the global community.

The community of Wilmington Montessori School develops each individual’s human potential to be a responsible contributor to the global community by focusing on the development of character, leadership, thinking skills, knowledge, life management skills, creative and artistic abilities, and social responsibility through the model of C.A.R.E.S: Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-control.
