Philosophy & Approach

Day in the Life

General School Mission

"Preschool is often a child's first group setting outside of the home, where he or she learns about social rules, and how to interact with peers and adults and become part of a diverse group. Since experts say that a positive preschool experience can start a child on a path to a lifelong love of school and learning, our objective is to provide a safe yet stimulating environment that fosters a feeling of well being, and a balanced program that stresses the social, educational, emotional and physical development of each individual child.

Social goals include learning to share and take turns, and interacting effectively with peers.

Appropriate Educational goals encompass developing good listening skills, learning to follow simple directions, and being able to identify shapes, colors and numbers from 1 - 10.

Emotional goals emphasize helping children to develop a positive self-image, and independence and confidence in their abilities.

Physical goals include working on fine and gross motor skills. Children practice holding a pencil and cutting with scissors. They also learn physical coordination through outdoor play and creative movement exercises.

Story time, instructional craft projects, free play, music and creative movement activities, nature and science exploration, field trips that expose children to the world around them, and special visitors are regular components of the school curriculum. Field trips may be arranged to a local apple orchard, horse farm or fire station. Visitors might include a veterinarian, a dental hygienist and a policeman.
